House Blend #1 is exactly what it says on the bag, our very first blend. Creating a Blend is an Art, this is the opinion that we have always had at Hampshire Coffee Co.When we started back in 2011 we considered only roasting single origins but after much consideration it was decided that a House Blend would add a personality to our brand. Experimenting by taking the coffee’s that we loved and combining them was our obvious starting block but proved expensive. At this point we decided to approach the creation of our blend in a more conventional way. But not that conventional. Starting with a green bean that our brokers thought we were nuts to use then gradually adding other higher grade arabicas enhancing the taste profile until achieving the cup we desired. Taking influence and guidance from our friends down under our House Blend carries a light to medium roast enhancing ‘House Blend #1’ making it “A very clean coffee which is smooth, bright and has a dried fruit sweetness to it, with pleasant citrus notes” After a few tweaks over the course of a couple of years House Blend #1 was finally signed off. Using a combination of 6 arabica beans House Blend #1 is roasted to a full city roast profile ensuring all the beans display all their own unique flavour in harmony. Producing a lighter Antipodean style roast was a risky strategy to take here in the UK due to our love of the High Street multiples distinctive flavour profile. In 2014 House Blend #1 won 2 Gold Stars in the 2014 Great Taste Awards. Judging table notes: “Well balanced, not overly sour. Some good spice and some fruit. Lighter roast than most. Touch more fruit than some. Some hazelnut in the background. Carries milk well.”
